Several tubes are wider, while some are narrow. Tubes may likely contain workers and soldiers foraging for food if the tube is narrow. On the other hand, a tube that is wide may contain soldiers and workers transporting food. This is the most destructive stage.  

2.) Subterranean Tunnels 

Meanwhile, the subterranean species don’t create shelter tubes. But, they create subterranean tunnels where they transport and search for their food.  

The tunnels might be around 20cm deep down the soil. However, some cases might have a deeper tunnel.  

3.) Blowholes in Trees 

This is for both the subterranean and termite species. However, the most noticeable one is the subterranean. They typically form their colonies in the tree trunks or stump.

4.) Earthen Packing

5.) Wood Excavation and Noises 

Oftentimes, termites excavate the wood that leaves a thin layer intact. Usually, almost all excavation depends from hollowing galleries to large ones depending on the species of termite. You could hear audible tapping in areas where it’s heavily infested with termites. Of course, this is another sign. 

The noise comes from the soldier termites tapping their heads and mandibles on the wood. The reason for this is to signal the entire colony. The constant transfer of the signal increases the noise you will hear. 

6.) Frass 

Frass is the term called for the termite droppings. It would obviously indicate that there are termites around if you ever find a pile of dropping inside or outside your house.
